How do I know my child needs individual tutoring?

Virtually every student can benefit from the personal attention that All Star Tutors can provide. Whether your child is currently struggling with a particular subject, frustrated with the amount of effort required to keep up with homework, or wants to get ahead and excel, All Star Tutors can work with you to achieve those goals.

Can one person really make a difference?

YES! Of course!!

How does the All Star Tutoring program work?

Our approach is simple, we work with you to determine your needs and goals, and then match your child with one of our skilled and experienced tutors.

The program begins by focusing on an overall approach to learning: study skills and academic organization. The goal is always to address immediate needs and to have a lasting impact on performance and confidence.

Our instructors primarily use the curriculum your child is using in the classroom rather than having an entirely separate study program. We have found that this approach more quickly and directly improves performance and confidence in the classroom, and feels more like help rather than extra work.

Following the school's curriculum allows the student to keep up with his studies and allows the tutor an opportunity to review anything the child did not understand in the classroom. Using the student's school curriculum as a guideline, the tutor may introduce supplementary materials and exercises to illuminate difficult concepts.

Absolutely. Helping a child develop math, reading, spelling and writing skills can make a dramatic difference in that child's life. Children performing at or above grade level by third grade are much more likely to achieve success academically, professionally and personally.

Children with low literacy skills face higher probabilities of unemployment, poverty, juvenile delinquency, criminal behavior and other social ills.

How often does the Student meet with the Tutor?

Typically, the tutor meets with the student once or twice a week for one to two hours each session. Depending on whether the student has catch-up work, late assignments, motivational concerns, or learning challenges, the recommended frequency may be higher. Ultimately, the frequency is determined by the parents.

What if my child doesn't like the Tutor?

In the first session, tutors try to learn about students' personality and learning style. Our tutors make every effort to develop a positive, constructive relationship with the student, but if you do not think the tutor is a good match, All Star Tutoring will assign another tutor to work with your child.

Where does the Tutor meet with the Student?

What are the qualifications of your tutors?

What about Summer tutoring? Fall break? Winter break? Spring break? Does All Star Tutoring offer tutoring when school is out of session?

Yes. If your schedule allows, continuing with tutoring during school breaks can be very helpful getting your child caught up with or even ahead of their schoolwork.

During the summer break, having a tutor work with your child on subjects they have had difficulty with can start the next school year on the right foot. Research shows that continued instruction through the summer months can have a dramatic impact on academic performance. As always, in home tutoring can be easily scheduled to accommodate vacation schedules and other summer activities.

What advantages does All Star Tutoring offer over center-based educational services?

The main advantages to All Star tutoring include true one-on-one instruction, convenience, flexibility, and the use of your child's own curriculum.

Convenience - All Star Tutors come to your home or other convenient location without the need to add one more drop-off and pick-up.

Flexibility - All Star Tutors work with the individual schedules of busy families. Tutoring sessions can easily be coordinated with other extra-curricular activities.

Curriculum - Rather than using a canned prescription, All Star Tutors begin with the same curriculum that your child is using at their school, and augment those materials with targeted exercises and activities based on your child's specific needs. We don't think having your child do double work is usually the best solution. Achieving success with the same curriculum they are using at their school builds confidence and transfers success in tutoring to sustainable success in the classroom.
